Does varying the amount of calories that you eat really boost metabolism?

Hey everyone–

I recently read in Jillian Michael’s book Making the Cut and also a few places on the Internet that varying calorie intake boosts metabolism. I am currently consuming about 1500-1700 calories a day. However, it seems that I get more of a benefit when I roller coaster my calories, since it keeps my body guessing. Could someone provide me some kind of proof that doing this helps boost metabolism? Has doing this helped any dieters out there lose more weight effectively?

Side Note: I am exercising 5-6 days a week doing strength training and cardiovascular routines. I also drink some green tea mostly for good antioxidants, but also to try to improve my metabolism slightly. I also try to move around as much as possible!

I dont really have any proof….but I sometimes think that keeping your body on a guessing game is good since when you eat regularly, your body cells gets fat and lazy while when your body doesnt know, it has to keep up wit itself to be prepared for anything that might happen. Dont try starvin though, that just causes your body to not get enough energy and nutrients to function well enough to be alert
