How long does it take for super low calorie diets to slow the metabolism?
i’m just worried because i realize i’ve been eating too little. i’m 5 feet, 16, sedentary, and 96 pounds.. and oh my gosh, for the past 2 days, i’ve only eaten like 700-800 calories….and yesterday, i ate only 400…today, i ate 2000….but before all this, i was averaging around 2000 calories and gaining.
Not eating slows the metabolism immediately. With no food in your stomach your body goes into “starvation” mode, which means you burn muscle and experience a drastic drop in metabolism. If you are spacing your meals out properly you should be able to lose weight in a healthy way on 1600-1700 calories.
In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body’s fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt — known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.
