Metabolism Booster Vitamins

necessity of vitamins?
I had been taking vitamins for awhile (at the suggestion of a doctor) and I am planning on taking them up again, and I’m wondering if what I take will be over-kill, or if i should take things in addition to what i’m already planning…I am a very sickly person, and I’d prefer to have energy and immune-boosters.
I take:
A multivitamin
Potassium (because I am potassium deficient)
vitamin C
Iron (right before to right after menstration)
Cinnamon (for glucose-stabilization…I’m hypoglycemic)
a vitamin B Complex (for energy and metabolism)
Calcium + D (because women need calcium to prevent osteoperosis)
St John’s Wort (for mood stabilization)
and Melatonin (for insomnia, it regulates the sleep cycle)
I was also thinking about adding CoQ10 as an antioxidant.
Any thoughts?
Most of those will be included in your standard multivitamin, there’s not a particular need to take them all separately – it’s more expensive, and it’s just more pills to take. The potassium is an exception – as you can overload yourself on this one if you go absolutely nuts.
St. John’s Wort is not particularly safe, and the current round of studies done by NCCAM and others show that it’s not particularly effective. The active ingredients in it muck with the primary liver enzyme in drug metabolism and can cause a large range of strange and bizarre interactions. I cannot in good conscious say that it’s a safe thing to take, especially if you’re on any sort of other medication.
